Hardships as the pathway to peace; a poem for the unemployed
65
Thank you to anndavis25 for her lovely hub on Reinhold Niebuhr; he wrote the line I quoted for my title.
Thank you also to Jaspal, who reminded me that sympathy rises from generous spirits.
Hardships as the pathway to peace
You're a person who needs to be
free of worries and concerns
he said
I am worried about your financial
situation.
Burning sensation
behind the iris.
Tears leap to the rescue and
so does a kleenex.
Sympathy is under rated.
Elite political candidates
point fingers
at the unemployed.
Why can't you find a job within
our time frame, you lazy good for
nothing?
Why don't you sue the Board that
stole your company
you inept wildcatter?
At least pay the interest
on your student loans,
you credit risk!
Eat dog food.
Artificial protein will
keep you barking up the wrong
knee.
If
as Niebuhr said
hardships are the pathway to
peace,
it is time to
fire Congress
and put
real people
to work in Washington
gunning for peace
as in
Jobs
for the unemployed.

This was really smart and emotive writing. I like witty poetry!
I am loving this poem. I would love to print this with your permission and share it with my clients who most of them are unempoyed! Voted-UP!
you made me teary.
yeah, it is difficult not to have bread on our plate daily, on top of all our basic needs...great poem for us to reflect on...
If we search hard enough, we'll all find something to laugh about...despite how bad things may sometimes seem. :)
Voted up! Touching poem on the needs of the unemployed. In this end of the world it's a vicious cycle - young people are getting more educated but can't get jobs because they lack experience. It's suggested they do volunteer work in their field of interest during the time they are still studying however to get to the jobs which may take volunteers they have to take transport and the job of course they don't get paid. Then school's over and they still can't get a job because even though they volunteered it was for too short a time and employers want people with at least several years of experience etc. etc. etc. Well you get the picture.
Beautiful poem regarding those in need and able to work. Awesome...
A great hub which does indeed leave much food for thought and the video link is priceless.
Thank you so much for sharing this great hub.
Take care and enjoy your day.
Eddy.
Hey, I was on unemployment for my max 26 weeks in Florida. The Federal Government gave us money for extensions. It was fun to get the letter, claim my lost weeks and count out the figures to pay my lagging bills. It was a kick in the gut when the State didn't send the check! At first I was angry, but I realized the figures were misleading and the unemployment rate was (still is) much higher than reported. They only count the ones still getting their 26 weeks worth. I bet the figure is triple for people who are past the 26 weeks and can't find work. Who quit looking?
As for me, I am no longer unemployed. I am freelance!
Powerfully emotive write---and you raise excellent questions for us to contemplate
