Unfurl the sails and ride the wind
for we are once again unemployed
the energy sector considered sure
pathway to riches disappoints
as always
for greed cannot sustain honest
effort and in the end ideas mean
less than power

catch a swell and head over the
horizon toward new lands
inhabited by strangers
perhaps someone operating
from the higher chakras
invested in people not deals

drop anchor where pirates
do not lurk birth enthusiasm
for fresh scents carried
on lusty breezes unpolluted
by industrial waste

waste
a word for human capital
ravaged
tossed like garbage into
local dumps

Dear StoryTeller ~ I'm sure under the currents of this poem swell much more than we see from the naked eye. Wishing you employment, as you like it. Love, Debby (soul sister)

Kenneth, wow. I admired Andy Griffith. He broke the mold. Thanks so much for your support. Now I feel I need to live up to your expectations! Oh dear! Seriously, thank you.

Hello, Storytellersrus! LOVED this hub/poem. Very honest, warm and delicate. I appreciate YOUR talent. I voted up and away! I am now a fan and follower if that is okay by you. Sincerely and Respectfully, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town (Hamilton) in northwest Alabama that is another Mayberry, where Andy Griffith worked. Great work. Keep it up. (KA)

It is pretty sad, isn't it? The last in, the first out has always been the rule. But in this case, it appears that those at the top want to kick out the guy who made it all possible... like stealing really. Thanks, scarface!

Your poetic words ring so true. There are many who are employed and then all of a sudden they are unemployed. I enjoyed your poem tremendously and I am happy to see you are still thriving on HP. :)

Your touching poetry really hit home with me. I am so fortunate to have a son who invited me to live with him when my life came " tumbling down " a few short years ago. He works hard just to " pay the rent", which we divide, and never murmurs one negative word. We are blessed to have each other. Love your poetry!

dineane, thank the government for unemployment insurance, eh? Your dilemma is in my heart and you are in my prayers. We've been through this before only this time we cannot access unemployment insurance or Cobra our health insurance. There are many unkind and powerful folk in the world. Happily, the little guys, friends and family help each other out when times get tough.

robie2, if raising up others put pennies in the bank, your account would be overflowing right about now. Thanks so much.

What a wonderful poem, Storyteller--so rich and full of visual and auditory images. I resonate to a voyage through uncharted waters. Life is one big explorationn and I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing some stormy seas at the moment-- but you sure do know how to make creative lemonade from life's lemons-- thumbs up for an awesome hub

Love it! You get a thumbs up from me and a facebook share! I've received my layoff notice but have also been told I'll at least be 'extended'. I'm in limbo, knowing unemployment is a very real possibility in my near future. I'm trying to stay positive and to embrace the 'voyage', but it's not easy!

ThoughtSandwiches, I love your name! It is visual and packed with meaty promise. I look forward to getting to know more, via your hubs.

writer20, I appreciate the read. Thanks so much.

Hyphenbird, ditto on the praying! I ask that wonderful, light-filled energy surround you and sustain you. As for us, I believe we will find a better pathway within an industry that does not rape the earth and pollute the air. This is my hope. This is my dream.

Ralph Deeds, nice to see you in my comment section after all these months. Friends appear at the most important moments! Hugs.

Sunnie Day, I do not know which one is Brenda, but I appreciate the positive feedback and support! I look forward to being inspired by your hubs. Your name should be Sunny Smile!!!

da, yep. It is not fun, but we all go through difficulties from time to time.

WillStarr, another friend I have missed. Thanks so much! I am optimistic. Meanwhile, I will have to stoke my courage with one of your cowboy tales!!!

This is such a difficult time and to suffer twice must be so painful. I have been unemployed for a year and a half. I keep reminding myself that God is my source. He uses man to supply our needs and He will bring me, and your family, provision in a spectacular manner. I look forward to seeing your praise report and will be praying for His plan, path and purpose to be fulfilled for your family.

I like your lovely poem.

Hi Storytellerus...I like your escape route plans...unfurl and go. Having harbored the unfurl and head out over the horizon dream for a number of years...this was a nice poem! Voted Up and across the board.
